Animal Nutrition & Health

The beneficial co-products that result from the corn refining process play important roles in livestock nutrition. Corn gluten feed and corn germ meal are popular medium protein feed ingredients while corn gluten meal and steepwater are widely used additives in animal feed. In addition, Corn Products offers a natural prebiotic ingredient called FortiFeed® that promotes overall health for commercial and companion animals.

FortiFeed® Prebiotic Fiber Blend

FortiFeed® Prebiotic Fiber Blend is an all-natural prebiotic ingredient comprised of a pure form of short-chain fructooligosaccharides (scFOS®) that can stimulate the growth of beneficial microflora in the intestines of monogastric animals. Derived from cane or beet sugar, non-GMO ingredients and a traditional, natural enzymatic fermentation method, Fortifeed® helps maintain the proper balance of beneficial and pathogenic bacteria in a variety of animals. Corn Gluten Feed

A medium protein, medium energy feed ingredient containing primarily fiber and associated starch, germ meal, and steepwater. Available in wet, loose, and pelleted forms.

Corn Germ Meal

Ground corn germ from which most of the solubles have been removed. Commonly used as a carrier for liquid or hygroscopic materials and as a medium protein ingredient.

Corn Gluten Meal

A refined granular 60% protein product noted for its high energy content, high methionine content, and as a source of xanthophylls.

Steepwater

During the steeping process, grain solubles are released and undergo a mild lactic acid fermentation from naturally occurring organisms. Light steepwater from the system is incubated then concentrated under vacuum to approximately 50% solids. Used as a liquid supplement for ruminants, nutrient source for poultry, and protein/binding source for cattle range blocks.
