Starch serves an important purpose in the corrugating industry. Since the quality and bonding properties of the starch-based adhesives directly affect final board quality, choosing the right starch is imperative. Corn Products offers a full line of unmodified and modified carrier starches to help optimize your corrugating adhesive formulations, provide corrugating operations with a higher level of bonding, and improve the ability to achieve greater machine speeds with less waste.
Pearl starch, or unmodified starch, has typically been the product used for starch adhesive. However, with the introduction of high performance papers and the increased use of recycled paper, the right formulas must be established with the best viscosity, percent solids, and temperature of the adhesive. Modified, or carrier starches, when used in conjunction with pearl starch, can result in an increase in solids for better bonding and the ability to achieve faster machine speeds.
Our experienced technical service representatives can help optimize your corrugator's performance and will determine which product would be best for their individual operation, based on the type of board being produced, the method of starch preparation being employed, and the requirements from the corrugating equipment.
