Starch serves an important purpose in the corrugating industry. Since the quality and bonding properties of the starch-based adhesives directly affect final board quality, choosing the right starch is imperative. Corn Products offers a full line of unmodified and modified carrier starches to help optimize your corrugating adhesive formulations, provide corrugating operations with a higher level of bonding, and improve the ability to achieve greater machine speeds with less waste.

Modified Starches

  • FiberBond® is utilized for elasticity during gelling, improved water-holding capacity, and application on specialty papers.
  • Stablebond® is used for exceptional viscosity stability and offers excellent formulation flexibility.
  • Surebond® is excellent for rapid bonding. It preserves quality and reduces lag time.
  • Ultrabond® is used for increased pin adhesion. It provides superior viscosity stability and extremely consistent paste.

Unmodified Starch

Pearl starch, or unmodified starch, has typically been the product used for starch adhesive. However, with the introduction of high performance papers and the increased use of recycled paper, the right formulas must be established with the best viscosity, percent solids, and temperature of the adhesive. Modified, or carrier starches, when used in conjunction with pearl starch, can result in an increase in solids for better bonding and the ability to achieve faster machine speeds.

Performance Resins & Additives

The Coragum™ performance resins and additives are used in conjunction with our corrugating starches to provide water resistance to the finished board, and to improve board quality and corrugator performance. The WP line of resins is formulated at various levels of reactive solids to meet wet strength performance needs. Coragum PA-15 Performance Additive is used to improve green bond, machine speed and specialty paper bonding. Coragum PR-20 Performance Resin provides water resistance and improved performance and board quality. Coragum PT is used to improve adhesive penetration into difficult to bond papers.
